Mirrors of Life
Last Sunday, I made a drum. It was such a cool experience and a mini container of what happens in life.
My personal journey in making the drum was fairly smooth. I got my questions answered, I moved along quickly and was one of the first ones done. This gave me the opportunity to help others. Fun Fact: I learn quickly and can teach what I learned quickly.
Some people struggled with their drum. The leather used for stringing was thin in places and broke for some. This was part of their journey. I got to listen to the group guide share with others her wisdom when the thin pieces broke. I found it a beautiful. She shared that the places where there were breaks are spaces where spirit can come in. She further encouraged people to decorate that part with something special to indicate that it's special and different. She did this as she took twine and joined the two disconnected pieces together.
Our cracks, our places where we feel broken are places where spirit can come in and be present. While we typically think of those as our painful places or places where we don't feel whole, they're an opportunity to allow the divine to fill that space to complete us in a different way. We are whole, while we may feel broken, we're filled with Kintsugi: repaired with gold in our cracks.
The crack, broken string, the pieces we feel are places we can fill with something more. It's where we can fill ourselves with our divine nature, our devotion. The ego is what breaks, not our true nature. When we embrace our so called brokenness, that's where the magic and alchemy happen.
How do you view your “broken” parts? How have you embraced them?
As always, Your life is your practice.
